Papaya Red Army

Large deeply lobed dark green leaves spiral around the trunk. Waxy, five petalled fleshy, creamy white flowers appear in late spring early summer. Large green fruit growing to about 80cm long with sweet red flesh with contrasting black seeds.

Habit - Thick sturdy plants that are fast growing and are tolerant to Papaya Ring Spot virus.

Size - 4 x 2m

Pollination - Bi-sexual plants but it is still good idea to plant two or more plants to ensure fruit set. Self-fertile. Pollination is by wind or insects.

Harvest - Harvest in autumn when colour of the skin changes to a ligher shade. Will soften off the tree. In the hot regions they can be harvested all year round.
